YESTERDAY’S BUSINESS, A sitting of the Palmerston North Magistrate's Court was held yesterday, Mr. J. L. Stout, S.M., presiding. Don-ice Clinton and Hector Simpson, parties to a collision, were charged with, driving respective motor-cars at excessive speed round a corner, and wore each fined £2 and costs 7/-. Murray Donald was mulcted in the sum of 10/- with costs 15/- for riding a bicycle at night without a light. Ernest Henry Chatfield (Mr. Grant) was charged with, driving a motorear with head-lights of a dazzling brilliancy. After evidence had been heard, the charge was dismissed. For leaving motor vehicles standing without lights, Andreas Emil Schulz, Frederick Needham and Harold T. Sussex were fined £l, and Edwin Romas Jones and Thomas William Young 10/-, with costs . F. R. Waller was mulcted in the sum of £2 and costs 17/- for exceeding the speed limit in a car in the inner area of fhp Borough. Two Juveniles wore fined 10/- and costs 2/- for cycling on the footpath.

John ' Andrew was fined 10/- and costs 7/- for allowing a chimney to be on fife In Chaytor street.

Ivan Jl Boobyer Was charged with failing to attend military camp and also to notify the Defence authorities of his change of address. Defendant was fined £2 and costs 15/-, on the second charge, the first being dismissed. Maxwell’s Hat Trick, James Maxwell was charged with drunkenness, and also with procuring liquor during the currency of a prohibition order. Accused pleaded guilty, Senior-Sergeant O'Grady stated that this was accused’s third offence since Friday- Upon his conviction on Saturday, when a prohibition order was made out against him, he immediately went out and got drunk again. Maxwell was sentenced to seven days’ imprisonment on the first count, and fined £3, in’default 14 days’ imprisonment, on the second. After Honrs. Rangi Paid, Duncan Bennett and Bernard King were charged that on May 23, fit Palmerston North, they Were found on : the licensed premises of the Clarendon Hotel after hours. The first-named was also charged with giving a false name and address to a constable. Mr. J. W. Rutherfurd appeared on behalf of Bennett and King and pleaded guilty. Defendants were fined £2 and costs on each count Maintenance, Thomas Waugh was charged with disobedience of maintenance orders, being £lB 15/- in arrears on one and £3O on the other. He 'was sentenced to three months’ Imprisonment with hard labour on each charge, to be released on payment of the arrears and solicitor’s fee.
