LECTURES ON MANURES.
FEILDING AGRICULTURAL COLLEGE, The lectures given by Air., L. JWild, director of the Feilding Agricultural College on manures were continued last week to a good attendance. Points regarding the nature of the various kinds of phosphates were recapitulated, particularly the value of citric-solubility as ,a test. Local and other New Zealand evidence was compared with evidence from English experience. Air. Wild also showed by experiment the importance of plenty of lime in the soil and explained how his investigations at Lincoln College had indicated that where lime is not plentiful, there is a probability that insoluble phosphate of iron is formeu, which is not so available to the plant. The lecturer then dealt with the various kinds and uses of potash and nitrogenous fertilisers and explained the evidence of New Zealand expnments as to their value. As before the demonstrations were assisted by students. The lectures will be continued next Friday evening, the subject being “Lime and its uses."
