NOTES OF THE DAY.
Air. Robert Hogg, representing- the New Zealand Licensing- Reform Association, is visiting Feilding at present. In connection with St. Brigid’s building fund, a big dance is being organised for to-morrow evening at the Drill Hall. Smith's jazz orchestra has been engaged for the evening and good dancing is promised. The annual meeting of the Feilding Homing Pigeon Club is to be held this evening in the Library rooms. Enrolments are still being recovered by the Registrar for the Oroua electorate and approximately 7,900 electors have so far enrolled. No information is yet available as to when the roll proper will be printed or when enrolling is to cease. The Reform party’s organiser, Mr. Hebenton, arrived in Feilding last evening and attended a meeting of the local committee. One first offending inebriate was convicted and discharged before Mr. R. H. Smale, J.P., at the Magistrate's Court yesterday morning. Mr. J. Smith, of the staff of the Feilding railway goods-shed retired yesterday after thirty years' service with the Department, twenty-four of which he spent in Feilding. Arriving in New Zealand in 1874 with his parents, Air. Smith settled in Feilding, and with his father and brother helped to form the streets of the town and to build the railway station. After joining the service he was for 13 years a shunter at Palmerston, being later transferred to Feilding. Ho carries with him th e good wishes of the carriers, the business people, and his fellow members of the service.
