Spahi Squadrons Sabre * Fugitives HUNDREDS OF DEAD'IN LINE OP FLIGHT. [By Electric Cable —Copyright.] [Aust. and N.Z. Cable Association.] (Received Thursday, 7 p.m.) LONDON. July 8. The “Dally Chronicle” Paris correspondent states that the Rlifian offensive, on the Zaza sector, which lasted two days, has been shattered. Columns of the enemy again and again stormed the French positions, at Bab-taza, but always met with deadly fire, until they fled helterskelter, the French throwing two squadrons of Spahis against the disheartened enemy. For the first time in the campaign, “L’Arme Blanche" had a chance. The Spahis rode full tilt at the flying enemy, sabring their rear. Many Kiffians threw away their rifles to flee, but the Spahis overtook them. Those who did not fall to the French sabres were hurled into a ravine by the rush of charging squadrons. Hundreds of the Riffian dead mark the line of flight. Road communications between Zaza and Fez have now been re-established. NO BRITISH INTERVENTION. REPLY TO SPANISH , ENTREATIES. (Received Thursday, 7.45 p.m.) LONDON, July 9. The British Note to Madrid regarding Tangier will Indicate our intention to avoid entanglement in the Moroccan imbroglio, or any action at Tangier, which at Tangier which might give Ab-dcl-Krim a pretext to challenge the neutrality of the international zone.
