CHAMBERLAIN’S EYE UNWINKING. [By Electric Cable —Copyright.] [Aust. and N.Z. Cable Association.] (Received Thursday, 7 p.m.) LONDON, July S. In the Commons, Mr Chamberlain. in reply to a question, said the Government did not propose to break off relations with Russia, but he Was closely watching the course of events. MOSCOW’S ISOLATION. ALARM OF RUSSIAN PRESS. (Received Thursday 7.45 p.m.) RIGA, July 9. The Soviet press is alarmed at the growing feeling against the Soviet all the world over. “Isvestia” and other journals point out that an interruption of diplomatic relations will be possible presently. There arc signs everywhere of a general front being organised against the Soviet Government. "Isvestia” adds that the Soviet is fully prepared for military defence. RAKOVSKY ARRIVING BY AtR. ATTEMPT TO THAW FOREIGN MINISTER. LONDON. July 8. Arising out of the Anglo - Russian relations some quarters ascribe special significance to the departure of M. Rakovsky from Moscow for London by air. He arrives to-morrow, being sent to interview Mr. Austen Chamberlain, who. in the House of Commons recently, hinted that the continuance ol Soviet propaganda was a matter of grave consideration. It is a coincidence that Mr. Rakovsky’s visit synchronizes with Mr. Baldwin’s receipt of a letter from the Trade Union Congress, expressing fear that the reported speeches of British Cabinet Ministers indicate that attempts are being made to create an Anglo-Russian crisis over events in China, and also calling attention to Mr. Austen Chamberlain’s refusal of M. Tchitcherin's offer of cordial discussion of the questions at issue. The letter appeals that nothing oe done in the direction of diplomatic cleavage and also urges full consultation with the Soviet’s accredited diplomats.
