HALCOMBE.
HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY. (From Our Own Correspondent). A meeting of the Horticultural Society was held on Friday evening. The president (Mr W. E. Bryant) presided over a fair attendance of members. The schedule for the spring bulb show was revised and the dau of the show fixed for September ,16th. After a lengthy discussion, it was decided to hold a bazaar in connection with the spring show, a committee being appointed of all lady members present to make necessary arrange*, ments. A further meeting of the Society will be held on the first Friday in August. The meeting terminated with a vote of thanks to the chair. PBng Pong. A ping pong tourney was held on Tuesday evening, Halcombe playing Stan way. A well, played and evenly contested game ended with each side winning 15 games. The visitors were afterwards entertained at supper at Mrs Woodcock's tea rooms. Football. The Halcombe and Marton juniors met on Wednesday afternoon, playing on the Recreation ground, Halcombe winning by eight points to six. Hockey. A match was played on Wednesday afternoon between Halcombe and Marton. Goals were shot by the Misses M. Clapham, N. Davies, and R. Williams for the home team; Halcombe winning by 3 to nil. Mr Gracie, of Marton .acted as referee; the visitors being entertained at a dainty afternoon tea at the conclusion_ of the. game. Cribbage and Euchre. An enjoyable crib and euchre tourney was played between members of the Foresters’ Lodge and non-mem-bers on Wednesday evening, the Foresters finally winning 19 games out of 30. Halcombe Band . The meeting held in connection with the Halcombe Band on Tuesdayevening was fairly well attended. Mr W. Francis presided. The balance sheet showed a credit of £23 18/9. It was decided that all band property, comprising instruments, uniforms, music, etc., be called in, and delivered at Francis and Co.’s store not later than the 30th June. Mr Francis was appointed trustee in the interests of the public, and Mr C. Natyke on behalf of the band. A committee comprising Messrs A. Woodcock, E. Johnski, and I. McLennon were appointed to inspect instruments and band property-, also to canvass the district with the object of procuring players to reform the band. A further meeting will be held on 10th July, when ali intersted are invited to be present. A vote of thanks to the. chair terminated the business of the evening.
