HOSPITAL COMFORTS FUND
MEETING OP COMBINED COMMITTEE. A meeting of the combined committee to raise a comforts fund for the patients of the Palmerston North Public Hospital was held yesterday afternoon, when there was a large attendance at the Soldiers’ Club, the Mayor (Mr. E. J. Nathan) presiding. Arrangements were made for k sacred concert to be organised by Mr. J. Garde Grimshaw and held at Fcilding on Sunday next, the matter of advertising and arranging for a hall to bo left in his hands. Some discussion took place with regard to the number of badges to be ordered for the committee’s big scheme of sale on Hospital Saturday, July 4. It was suggested that 3000 1/-, 2000 2/6, 1000 5/- and 10,000 children’s badg'es should bo ordered and that the last-named, with the assistance of headmasters, be distributed in the schools within the hospital district, also that a parcel of 1/-, 2/6 and 5/- badges be sent to the Mayors of various towns and chairmen of all dairy factories in the hospital district for sale.
Mr. H. L. Young undertook to manufacture badges and to allow the committee to purchase such number as it required this year and the balance (if any) would be held by him and could be taken over next year, without payment for the latter until delivered. The offer was considered a generous one and was accepted. Mr. Young also offered to provide, free of charge 200 posters for advertising Hospital Saturday on private and taxi-cars. It was the committee’s aim to obtain the services of at least 100 young ladies to sell badges on Saturday, July 4. Mrs. V. Trask will bo pleased to received names of volunteers. Mrs. Trask reported that arrangements were well in hand for the holding of street stalls on Thursday, July 2nd and 4th, and the committee would appreciate the gift of saleable articles of all kinds. The help of the country folk in this connection was sought and all articles should bo left with Mrs. G. E. Haggitt, Bank of Australasia, Broadway.
Mrs. Trask also reported that aii'ftrrangemonts .had been made for holding a card party in Messrs. Collinsor, and Cunninghame’s tea-rooms tonight (Tuesday) at 8 o’clock. A general meeting will be held on Friday afternoon at five o’clock.
