SCHOOL VIA RAIL.
REQUIREMENTS OF PUPILS. In reply to the representations by the Palmerston North High Schools Board of Governors in the matter of accommodation for pupils attending the High and Technical Schools, the stationmaster (Mr. J. J. O’Shea) wrote to the Board at its meeting last evening. He said that on the Foxton train, a threc-compartment car was provided for the children, one compartment for boys and two for girls. For Shannon and intermediate stations, two ears were provided, one for each sox. These two were attached to the morning train arriving at 9.53 and returned with the 5.10 p.m. train. For pupils desiring to travel by the 3.48 p.m. train, a two-compart-ment car was available at present, one for boys and another for girls. It was desired, however, that the number of pupils travelling by this train be restricted, as this was a special fast passenger train put on by the Board of Management for passengers off the Napier and New Plymouth expresses for intermediate stations between Palmerston North and Wellington, and it was not in the interests -of the travelling public that the seating accommodation, when required for ordinary passengers, should be occupied by school children. There was, however, no objection to pupils traveling when there was accommodation available. He would request, nevertheless, that pupils for Foxton use either the Foxton or 5.10 p.m. trains. The writer stated that personally ho had kept a close watch on the pupils during the last fortnight, and had also obtained reports from the guards of the trains, and he was pleased to say that .their conduct was very good. Ho hoped it woud continue so until the end of the year. It was decided to forward a letter of appreciation.
