Miss Slmkin, of tho teaching staff of the Palmerston North Girls’ High School, has been absent this week owing to Illness. Miss Dorothy Ferguson has bee*, appointed part-time assistant to the English and arithmetic class at the Palmerston North Technical School The veneer of civilisation ■which covers human beings is generally regarded as somewhat fleeting when feelings arc aroused. At a certain gathering acid in Stratford recently that which covered two or three of the fair sex was rather badly thinned (says the local “Post”). No one seems to bo quite clear as to what the argument was about, but argument there was and personalities flew about in a fast and furious way. It is understood, however, that that method of settling the difference of opinion soon palled, and the result was that direct action was resorted to. A few blows were exchanged, but this form of combat soon gave place to hair tearing, which is generally regarded as a pastime dear ,to the: female heart when primitive instincts are aroused. From what can be gathered it would appear that this method was highly satisfactory to all. and was only ended when one of the ladies was removed to her home In a motor-car.
