A meeting of the Anglican Church committee, was held on Saturday evening, in the library. Members of St. Luke’s Ladies’ Guild were also pre. „ent. The secretary, Mr Paton, presented the year’s financial statement, which showed a marked improvement and the Ladies’ Guild made a donation of £2O towards the funds, which wiped off the church debt. The Vicar, Mr Watson, congratulated the ladies of the Guild on the success of ih e bazaar held recently and announced that the whole parish was now free of debt.

At the conclusion of the formal business, Miss Caldwell, who Is leav. ing the district, was presented with a prayer book by the members of the church. Mr Watson, in making the presentation, spoke appreciatively, of Miss Caldwell’s untiring efforts in the cause of the church, and wished her God-speed in her new sphere of labour.

The heavy rain on Friday caused a very serious slip on the river hill, about five miles from Aplti. which prevented the mail bus from reaching its destination. The mails and passengers had to be transhipped on Friday and Saturday, and brought to Apiti by car. Five men were busily employed all Saturday and part of Sunday in removing the debris, and the road was cleared on Sunday afternoon.

A combined Christmas service is to b e held on Thursday evening in the •Methodist Church. At the recent school examination, proficiency certificates were won byJean Cowan, Edna Osborne, and Vivian Bennett; competency, Mau. rice Jacob and Colin McKay.
