FEILDING POWER-HOUSE

CLOSED DOWN LAST NIGHT.

The engines at the’Feilding electric light station were, finally shut down last night,; as .the whole of the load will now be generated by ‘Mangahao hydro station., Last Friday night, as previously reported in our columns, the whole of the Feilding electrical scheme was connected through to Bunnythbrpe with the exception of the electrical installation at th*. Cheltenham Co.-op. Dairy Co. at Makmo, which continued to be supplied from Feilding power house. Last night at 6 o’clock, the Power Board staff, assisted by an electrical contracting firm at Feilding, commenced the work of converting • the installation of the Makino factory. The work was expected to lake about 12 hours to accomplish, but the major part of the work was done by 3 a.m. in order to let the churning be started at the usual hour, so as not to incon. venlence the concern, which Is at the height of i(s season. The Feilding power plant will now be cleaned up and partially remodelled and kept, in the meantime, as a standby. . , After having been run for a period of about nine years, the Feilding power house last night presented a unique contrast to its usual appearance; no moving fly-wheels and ..he absence of the familiar drone of the alternators, testified to the fact that the "white coal" from the hills was now an accomplished fact.
