NO WORK; NO RENT

LATEST LABOUR PROPOSAL. [By Electric Cable—Copyright.] [Aust. and N.Z. Cabin Association.] (Received Wednesday, 9.20 p.m) LONDON, April 1. Anti-Labour lobby correspondents scent a possible crisis over Mr Wheatley’s new Government Bill, preventing tenants who ar e not paying rent from being evicted if out of work. The fact that the Bill proposed to relieve the workers of the obligation to pay rent caused a sensation in the lobby. Even some members of the Labour Party fear that the proposals go too far, especially as it is reportea that Cabinet had not seen the text of the Bill before it was tabled.. Critics of the Bill point out that it gives tenants the right to live rentfree though members of this family may be employed or the house sublet. Sir Joynson Hicks and Mr Neville Chamberlain have tabled amendments declining to throw the burden or relief of unemployment upon a section of the community.
