FEILDING MUSICAL UNION

ANNUAL MEETING. Tlio annual mooting of the Feilding Musical Union was liold on Tuesday evening wlion the following annual report was adopted. Tho Musical Union was formed at a meeting called by Mr C. Hausman and held in tho Feilding Fanners’ Freezing Company’s Hoard Room on Juno 12, 1923, tho object) being to foster choral, orchestral, operatic and dramatic art in Feilding. The Com. mlttee elected at the next mooting of the Union, when tho draft constitution was adopted, at once sot to work to organise tho various brandies. Tho orchestral branch was already in being', and linked up with the union. Tho endeavour made to form a choral branch was not. successful, tho attendance at the practices falling away until It was decided to abandon the proposal made la produce tho oratorio, “Tho Messiah.” at the latter end of the year. Bettor fortune, attended the Juvenile branch, which was organised by Mr E, Ij. Uces. This branch has done useful word during tho year,, assisting in concerts at Feilding and in the country. No attempt has been made to form an operatic branch. A concert programme was presented by the union on October 3 in the Tivoli Theatre. The total receipts wore £57 5a 9d, and tho concert proved a most successful one from the musical point of view. At the request of the Manchester Block Jubilee Celebrations Committee, the union arranged a concert programme which was presented in the Tivoli Theatre on February IS of this year, before a fairly large audience. The proceeds of this concert went to the Jubilee Committee. A dramatic branch was formed during tho year, and gave very valuable help at the October concert For the coming year tho Committee has made the following recommendations: That the orchestra prepare for a concert to be presented in May; that an endeavour lie made to put on a light opeia, that Mr Bees be authorised to prepare a juvenile opera, ' Princess in Poppyland." The union is in a heal, thy financial condition, there being a credit balance, of £l7 4s 4d. The election of officers for the ensuing year resulted as follows: Patron, the Mavor; president, Mr C. Hausman, vice-presidents, Mr A. J. Follow and the Rev A. Mitchell; Committee, Messrs C. S. Jeks, W. W. Andrews, A, Kingston, A. K.' Sandford, and N. B. Gifford. Secretary to be appointed bv the Committee. "a vote of thanks was occorded the honorary auditor, Mr A. J. Geary. A vote of thanks to the retiring president. Mr A. E. Sandford, was carried by acclamation and it was decided to endeavour to. produce a light opeia doling the current year.
