THEFT OF A RING

SIX MONTHS’ IMPRISONMENT. George Colemam, alias Waterman, was charged at the Magistrate’s Court yesterday, before Mr J. L. Stout, S.M., that on or about March 23, at Foxton, ho did steal a diamond ring, valued at £l7. the property of Mary Griffen. Accused, who was unrepresented by counsel, pleaded guilty. Detective-Sergeant Quirko stated that accused. stayed at tho Manawatu Hotel, Foxtan, on the night of March 22, and next day the ring was missed.. Mary Griffen. wife of the proprietor of the Manawatu Hotel,, gave evidence on these lines. Accused, who asked for a light sentence, was convicted and sentenced to six months’ imprisonment, to bo concurrent on prisoner’s other term of three months imposed the day pre. vious. ANOTHER THEFT CHARGE. TWO BICYCLES CONCERNED. Max Olson took tho dock tio face a charge that on March 29_ 1024, at Palmerston North, he did steal a gent’s bicycle, value £lO, the property of Laurie Daniels, and also that on March 31, at Palmerston North, ho did steal, a gent’s bicycle, value £lO, the property of some person unknown. Upon application of Senior-Sergeant O’Grady, who appeared for the police, accused was remanded until Monday next.
