AWAJfUM TO-DAV. Everything: points to ,thc autumn meeting- of the Manawatu Racing Club to be opened to-day_ being one of the most successful in the club’s history. The light rains have taken the sting out of the hard track, and with big and well-furnished fields, excellent racing is to be expected. Thirteen acceptors are left in the Karere Hurdles, including Santiago and Sling Camp, while the Bull bracket, Omahu and All Melody, will also receive plenty of support. For the Te Ma'tai Hack Handicap, Clandhu, Whetunui anu Viewpoint are recommended by recent form, while Imperial Spark will have many friends.

A big field of twenty-six is carded to contest the Woodhey Hack Handicap, and the public will probably bo prepared for a surprise. Loyal Maid, Entre Nous and Zaragoza will be well to the front in the battle of favourites.

A likely trio for the Sires’ Produce Stakes arc Motley, Inferno and Father’s Voice. On performance, Motley is sure to be a warm favourite, and her track work lately suggests that it. will take something particularly brilliant to beat the Absurd—Pennon filly who ran a splendid trial on Saturday —one of the best ever done on the local tracks over five furlongs. Inferno, the winner of the C.J.C. Welcome Stakes, was not seen at his beat when he met and was defeated by Motley at Ellerslie, but the son. of Ab. surd—Ayah is said to have been pleasing his trainer (F. Tilley) and that means that he can be expected to run a big race.

Father’s Voice impressed the backers very much at Trcntiham. Another big contest is expected in the Prince of Wales Handicap, for which Alfort or Suggestion is likely to be favourite, but " Avis ” Inclines to Merry Day, Scotch Mixture or Bumptious to provide the place—getters. Para should go well, also Pcnolophom.

Ballymena will be warmly supporcd for the Gold cup. If Sunart prefers to contest the farmer event, there will be only five starters and only one divi. dend.

Glenross, despite the impost of a stone more than nc carried to victory at Bulls, snould be well supported m the Linton Hack Welter. Lady Gay is a likely one.

When the Telegraph Handicap comes up for decision, King Merv, national and Hast Crust should be seen in the firing line. Trains will leave Palmerston for the racecourse at 10.33, 11.5 and 11.15 o’clock, and the first race is at 11.45. If Gloaming wins the Cnallenge Stakes at Riccarton, which is more that likely he will only be 1650 sovs behind the record of the Australian champion, Eurythmic. A. Goodman nas Stream at the Manawatu -..xeeting, says “ Sir Lancelot.” He, will go to Nelson for the w'cok-end and take possession of the hotel at Richmond on Monday next. He will continue to train the horses in his care until buyers come along. An inquiry was recently received from the other, side for Killocra, but his owner does not wish to sell .him.

Mr H. W. Brown purchased Tarleton at Mr Gerald Stead’s sale at Wellington, on Friday. The price was lOSOgns. Tarleton has been sent to Riccarton, where he will have for mentor the well-known trainer, McAulay, to whom Mr Brown has also entrusted a couple of yearlings by Arrowsmith.

Why the Collinhame suit costs you less. Because it gives you longer service the Collinghame costs you less. Until 12th April the Collinghame suit costs you considerably less because with your cash purchase you have the privilege of one pair of shoes at half price.—Colllnson and Cunninghame.
