THE DAIRYING SEASON.

HOME MARKET IMPROVING

General conditions indicate a slight improvement in the Home market ao far as New Zealand dairy produce is concerned, though the season as ye*, has not been an exceptionally good ono. This is due chiefly to the excessive rains during th e winter montlis, and its effect on feed, which, to * certain extent, retarded the progress of dairying of late. While the payouts o£ the various companies are not so large as at this period last yeai, present conditions appear to herald n brighter period as the season advances The payments made by the various companies are as follows: New Zealand Farmers' Dairy Union (butter? paid out, £9533, based on 1/0 per in. butterfat, Tiakitahuna, (cheese) 1/S; Manawatu Reliance (cheese) 1/S; Kairanga (cheese) 1/7, and buttcf 1/5; Ravenswood (cheese) 1/4; Shannon (cheese) f/S; Awahuri (butter) 1/5; Whakaronga (butter) 1/3. It was pointed out to a " Times " reporter yesterday that, while there was a depression in the London market at the present time, there were no forward buyers in activity. Only yesterday, however, indications had been received that the demand had revived as an offer of 1/6 2 per lb. had been made for shipments of butter during November. This was confirming the anticipations of the London authorities, who had predicted brighter conditions on the market there, and declared the drop to be temporary, because the statistical posi tion did not warrant it. The present demand was probably the initial move in the direction of 'Xmas trade.
