The Federal authorities claim that they have broke up another large liquor-running' scheme and a biibory plot involving 800.000 dollars "when they arrested eleven men, who were attempting to arrange for huge shipments of beer from New Jersey to New York, where a free market is available.
The authorities estimate that at least two thousand so-called "speakeasies," Where liquor was openly sold, are operating in New York. The Federal Prohibition Commissioner, Mr Haynes, stated some political lead. ers were using the illicit traffic for private and political -gain. He added that the situation in New Jersey Was shackling and ripe for a sensation. He intends to lay the situation before the Attorney-General, Mr Daugherty, for the purpose of prosecutions, which will extend to Pennsylvania, where the conditions are equally bad.
