FOXTON NOTES.

PRESBYTERIAN TENNIS CLUB.

A meeting of members was held in t'ho Presbyterian Sunday School on Monday night The Rev. Frank McDonald, the chairman explained that tho meeting was called to form a tennis club, as owing to the overcrowded state of the Foxton Club, many younger players were unable to get a game. He had, therefore, been approached in connection with the formation of a club identified with the church. They had had the ground measured, and found there was sufficient room for two courts. It was decided to form a club, to bo called the Presbyterian Tennis Club, and officers were elected as follow: —President: Rev, F. McDonald; vice-presidents, Messrs W. Ross, Jno. Ross, J. K. Hornblow, R Rangihcuca, D. W. Robertson, M. E. Perreau, R. N. Spcirs, and G. W. Thome, secretary and treasurer, Mr Davidson; committee, Messrs H. Hornblow, Simpson, Mc. Larcn, Downes, G. Perreau, H, Read, Misses J. Ross, Beard and Edwards, with power to add.

Subscriptions were fixed at 10/ for men and 5/ for ladies, with special arrangements for juniors to be made by the committee. Membership is to be restricted to members and adherents of the church. It was arranged to form a working bee during the week, SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

The monthly mooting of the committee was hold on Monday night. Present: Messrs J. K. Hornblow (chairman), Rangihcuca (secretary), CowIcy, Jno. Ross, Stevenson, and Banks (headmaster) t A letter was received from Messrs Moore and Bergen regarding a site for school swimming baths on land adjoining t'he school. The chairman' said that as soon as tine preliminaries were completed a deputation would wait on the glister Of Education. Ho considered there would bo no difficulty in raising the money, and no doubfc they would be able to obtain a subsidy from the Education Department. The chairman and Messrs Coley and Rangiheuea were appointed to wait on the Minister in Wellington. Tho Board intimated that a number of teachers from the training college would be available at the end of the year .—it was decided to urge on the Board that certificated teachers be appointed to the school in future, Thc Board also forwarded a certificate of environment to tho school. It was decided to have if framed and hung in the school. The chairman congratulated the school on the conferring of this honour. The headmaster reported that the roll number was 436, and also that the Supervisor of Agriculture had paid a visit during the month. SWIMMING CLUB. A mooting of tho recently-formed Swimming Club was held in Perreau's rooms on Monday night, there being 47 present. It was decided to hold a carnival on November 14, and a programme of events was drawn up. It was decided that entries far school children should be free, and donors of prizes and trophies were thanked. Mr Banks congratulated the Club on its auspicious start, ahd wished the members every success^
