REDUCED POSTAL RATES.

INCREASE IN BUSINESS

[Per Press Association.] . WELLINGTON, Last Night. Since the introduction of reduced postal rates was brought into operation on October, there has been a considerable increase in the number of postal packets posted. It is not possible, of course, to give at this early stage a reliable estimate of the effect of reduced postage, hut already it la evident that business firms and the general .public are regularly using the post office more extensively. There appears to have been a general increase in the postings throughout the Dominion, but at the chief centres the position is more marked. The general increase throughout the day at the chief centres is already between 20 and 30 per cent., but the particular pressure in the principal mail rooms la of course, between the hours of 5 p.m. and 6.30 p.m., during which period (he staff is working at very high pressure. The increase in the" postings during the hours mentioned is approxl mately 50 per cent. This stresses the necessity for the business community complying with the oft-repeated request of the Post Office thai corre. spondence be poMed at frequent intervals during the day.
