Remarkable fogs have prevailed in the English Channel and disasters to shipping are reported from the Cornish coast to the mouth of the Thames, particularly off Falmouth and the Goodwins and along the coast, where traffic is busiest. The Erench steamer Berville went ashore off Falmouth. As she afloat she was rammed by an unknown steamer, which disappeared in iha fog. The Brobonne, belonging to tho same company as the Berville, was also rammed by an unknown steamer of about 10,00 Otons and badly damaged. She sank near the Manacles The crew were saved.

The French steamer Nicholas 'Norbert, of Boulogne, is reported to havo been in collision with an unknown steamer off Penzance. The Norbcvt is leaking badly. The unknown steamer was apparently the Charbonnier, of Havre, which is aground at Penzance.

Collisions on the Goodwin Sands included the British steamer Mokta, which rammed and sunk the schooner Florence. Only the cook out of the Florence's crew was saved. The Greek steamer Bassilion Destouniu crashed into the Norwegian steamer Bill ,of Christiania. Both had to be towed to Dover.
