LADIES' GOLF.
MISS PAYTON WELLLXGTON CHAMPION. [Per Press Association.] WELLINGTON, Last Night. The Wellington ladies' provincial golf tourney concluded to-day t the championship being won by Miss Payton (Auckland), who defeated Miss Bell (Wellington), the previous (holder of the title, conclusively. The I first round was played with a strong south wind blowing, and concluded with Miss Payton securing a lead of ffi up. In the final round, Miss Bell [was unable to make-up lost ground land was defeated by six strokes. The 'contestants played approved golf, the ! match being full of interest. Miss Bell [put up a splendid fight, but Miss Payton proved superior. Although she had a number of bad lies, she made excellent recovery strokes. The driving of both players was a notable feature and their approach shots were also good, but Miss Payton was the more successful on the greens. In the four-ball match, Misses Chr> stall and K. Brinstead (Christchurch) returned the best card and won with 2 up. Misses Brandon (Wellington) and Bloomfield (Auckland) Were sCcOnd, all square. The prizes were distributed by Miss Duncan, the lady as follow: Champion, Miss Payton; runner-up, Miss Bell; first medal competition, Miss Cooper (Auckland); junior medal, . Miss White-Parsons (Lyttelton); first bogey competition, Mrs Spiers (Hutt); second medal, senior. Miss Cooper; junior, Miss White-Par-sons. Second bogey, senior, Miss Wheeler (Miramar); junior, Miss Gould (Christchurch); best gross score, Miss Cooper; four-ball, Mieses Chrystal and Brinstead; putting, Miss Cracroft Wilson (Christchurch, Miss Aichison (Nelson) finalists, Miss Gambriell and Mrs Murphy (Wellington).
The ladies' bogey competition played yesterday, resulted in a win in the A. grade for Miss Moore (8), six down; arid in the B grade for Misg F. Guy (26), all square.
