BETTING TAXATION.
NEWSPAPERS AS TIPSTERS, [By Electric Cable—Copyright.] [Aust. and N.Z. Cable Association.] LONDON, July 11. The secreatry of the Anti-Betting League, giving evidence before the Betting Commission, suggested that if there was a betting tax, the newspapers should bear a share, as they afforded great facilities for betting odds advices, without which betting could not be conducted. He would not be prepared to suppress early sporting editions, but would exclude selections, betting tips, and track sprints. He said that thousands betted solely upon newspaper information. The tax should be based on the amount staked, not on the odds laid.
