AUSTRALIAN BOUNTY SYSTEM. AMERICA IMPOSING EXTRA DUTIES. [By Electric Ca We—Copyright] [Aust. and N.Z. Cable Association.] WASHINGTON, July 10. The Customs Collectors have been instructed to asses? additional duties on certain iron and steel products imported from Australia, in compensation for the bounty allowed to manufacturers by the Commonwealth. The Assistant Secretary of the Treasury, Mr Moss, in issuing the order, declared that the Department was awaiting information as to the details of the bounty before issuing a declaration under the Tariff Act. In the meantime the collectors will assess the estimated additional bounty on fencing wire, galvanised sheets, wire netting, and traction engines, when imported directly or indirectly from Australia, and will suspend the liquidation of entries pending further investigation.
