WANDERING STOCK
There was a hint at yesterday's meeting of the Oroua County Council that more attention is to be paid to the nuisance of wandering stock on the roads under the jurisdiction of th c council. Those who are in Hie habit of using the " long acre " to keep their stock going, would do well to see that they are kept within four fences. The rangers' reports were rather alarming —Haleombe reporting 23 impounclings and Ashhurst over 60, 31 of the latter comprising a herd of cows, which had been found on th c road at 11 o'clock Of night. The chairman (Mr. O. Mcllroy) remarked that thc clerk's letters to tlu< rangers had stirred them up, but Cr. A. Campbell did not think sufficient had yet been done to put down the nuisance. On the motion of the chairman if was decided to advertise a warning in tho papers intimating the prosecution of all future offenders.
