TWOPENNY NEWSPAPERS AGAIN.
I LONDON "TIMES" AND TELEGRAPH" INCREASE PRICE. (From the Huddcrsfteld " Examiner.") The "London Times" on Tuesday announced that en and after June 4, the price of the paper will be twopence daily. , At the beginning of last year the price was reduced to three-halfpence, but. it is stated that it has now become quite clear that under present conditions three-halfpence is not an economic price. It must be remembered, says the "Times," that in this matter the newspaper business cannot be compared with any other. The general costs of newspaper production are for the most part still at the highest point reached after the war. Though paper has fallen in price it still costs far more than it cost in 1914. There has been no reduction in the war-time rato of printers' wages. Carriage and distribution are items, to mention no others, which stand at more than double the pre-war figure. It is in these circumstances that It has been decided to increase the price from three-halfpence to two-pence. The experience of the " Times " le not unique and by agreement the pric e . of the " Daily Telegraph " will be increased from three-halfpence to twopence on the same day, and for the same reasons.
