BOROUGH AFFAIRS.

ENGINEERS' REPORT. The report of the engineer (Mr J. R. Hughes) submitted to the Borough Council on Monday niyht stated: The grading of the footpaths and surfacing with screened metal in Palermes, Manawaroa, College and College Street Extension and Brightwater Terrace had been completed ready for tarring. The right-of-way adjoining the Museum in Cuba Street, and the side of the road on the corner of Scandia and Pahiatua Streets had been metalled preparatory to tarring. During the early part of the month, 34 cubic yards of asphalt was used in patching tarred roads and footpaths. Two sumps had been placed in pipe culvert that crosses the low depression in Church Street between Alexandra and Princess Streets to allow water to syphon under the gas and water mains, which had been the cause of i flooding in this locality in the past. The construction of a concrete kerb and channel on the North side of Roy Street between Florence Avenue, and Rongapai Street had been commenced. The work of scarifying and surfacing with metal of the roadway in Featherston Street had been completed practically to Heretaunga Street and 620 cubic yards of metal carted on to this portion of the street. It had been impossible to proceed further willi this work', owing to the considerable amount of wet weather experienced during the last few weeks. .Men had been employed patching the following streets. Ferguson, To Awe Awe, Snelson, Kingswood. Albert, Featherston West. Alexandra. Church West, Campbell, Bourke, Taonui. Ba.tt and South Streets and Kairuntra rind Botanical Roads. The 41n, water main in Edward Street had been extended for a distance of two chains to connect up with the 4in. main on Sydney and Regent Streets to complete the circuit and do away with the "dead end" in mains'. The Tin main in this portion of the street had been raised and the house services transferred to the 4in. main. The lin. main in Bcresford Street had been extended about one chain to connect with the lust house. The tin. main had been extended in Alfred Street. to replace lh" lin. plpo and all the house services connected up with the new main. Seventeen new house services of an average length of 34 feet had been put in. three replaced and two replaced. Two water services had been removed from Edwards* Baths, Main Street. Fire hydrants in several part of the Borough have been inspected and cleaned out.
