EAST STREET.
MEETING OF EAST STREET. A meeting of resident's of Eaststreet was held in the Eytton-strcet School hist evening, over which Mr. Penny presided. The chairman introduced the business of the evening, reporting an occurrence in East-slreef recently when child was rescued from appeared to be an attack by a " scarry " bullock, which had broken away from a mob. East-street was a stock route and was also used by a large number of children who attended, not only the Eytton-strect School, buf the Agricultural College, and the Catholic School. Mr. Penny emphasised that the time had arrived when some action should be taken to protect tnc jhildren from cattle. Others present endorsed Mr Penny's remarks. Air. T. F. Fitzgerald, who called the meeting, then put forward three alternative schemes for the protection and beautifying of the thoroughfare After a full discussion, it was decided to adopt scheme three, which provides for the erection of a fenc 15ft. from the proposed footpath, th allowing for the Beautifying Society lo cultivate the g:ass patch ly.ng in between the fence and the footpath. It was then decid. d to ioi in a committee of those present with a view to approaching the resident, or East - street to get their consent; toward placing the proposition before the council.
