STARR-BOWKETT SOCIETY.

The monthly meeting of the Starr Bowkett Building Society was held last evening, Mr C. K Dempsy presiding. Ballots i'or free of i.. t ercst loans were drawn 'n groups 3 and 4, Mr H. .whitehead, Palmerston North, drawing £;>00 in group 3, and Mrs E. A. Hunter drawing £SOO in group 4. Tenders for appropriations were accepted at £2O per £IOO in group 5. The annual meeting of the Society was fixed for August 2 9th, when ballots far loans will bo held in all the groups—3, 4,5, and l! —and it was decided that as No. 2 group has completed all the ballots, the first ballot for the return of subscriptions will also take place at the annual meeting. The chairman announced that in addition to. getting all their paid-up subscriptions returned to them, the shareholders in this group will also receive a very satisfactory profit on each share. They had during the twelve months just ended, allotted £10,400 in the last four groups formed, as well as £4 000 in No. 2 group, and over 300 shares had been voluntarily applied for in the new No. 7 group, which would commence operations on September Ist. Forty-six shares had also been re-allotted in group 6 since last meeting. The popularity of the Society, which was now completing 25 years of working, was evidently not confined to Palmerston North, as applications for shares in ne new group were received from Wanganui, Feilding, Woodville and Wellington, the free of interest loans under the Society's scheme being the main attraction for those desirous of owning their own homes. He congratulated the Board on the very satisfactry year just ended.
