TERRACE END SCHOOL.

MEETING OF COMMITTEE. The monthly meeting of the Terrace End School Committee was held last evening under the chairmanship of Mr G. H. Stiles. There were also present:—Messrs. T. A. Hastings, A. J. Wood, J. Davidson, J. Blackwood, S. 11. Snell and P. Duncalf. VISITING COMMITTEE'S REPORT. The visiting committee reported that it had visited the school and had arranged for the removal of the Pine tree stumps preparatory 1.0 having the space between the baths and the school buildings drained, metalled and .atter tarred and sanded, thus providing an assembling and drilling ground for the pupils. It was a matter for regret that each month several windows had to be repaired, and it was suggested that the pupils should be warned that such damage would have to be paid for by the ones responsible. It desired to impress on the school committee the absolute necessity for better arrangements for the school staff and submitted a plan showing what could be done to obviate any interference with the old wooden portion of the building, yet give the staff proper studying quarters and provide additional cloak room accommodation in the old building. The committee suggested also that the Board's attention be drawn to the dangerous condition of several fireplaces in the school.—The report Avas adopted. HEADMASTER'S REPORT. The headmaster (Mr A. O. Bitchier) reported that the school roll was now 722, the average for last quarter 670, or 93 per cent, of the average roll. The attendance of the senior classes had been particularly good during the last quarter. Messrs. Hogg and Dange visited the school last week to inspect the grounds and garden plots. Several pupils contributed work to the public schools exhibit at the Winter Show and three competed in the milk testing competition for which Mr D. Thomas kindly contributed the prizes. A gas heater had been supplied for the office and Hie board had reported that 3!) dual desks would be soon forwarded for Standard VI room. There was no more room for extra hook'; in the corridors of the old building. The report was adopted. NECESSARY ALTERATIONS. With a view to keeping down expense as much as possible and at the same time achieve satisfactory results by conversion, Mr Stiles moved, and Mr Hastings seconded that this committee agrees with the Education Board that it would be inadvisable to expend any larger sum on alterations to the headmaster's room and cioak room, and now respectfully asks the Board to carry out the following alterations, which would be of a permanent nature and which were absolutely necessary for the efficient organ sation of the staff and school. The committee suggested converting the headmaster's office into a senior porch to carry 75 cloak and hat hook? This proposed porch would lead directly to Standard VI room, and thus assist the school organisation. One lady teachers' office and one men's office with sliding dovs to convert the two offices into one common room for staff! meetings. The present lady teachers' office should become ihe headmaster's office because of its situation and the direct communication to the storeroom.—The motion was carried. GENERAL. Accounts amounting to £l3 IG/10 were passed for payment. It was decided fo invite the Mayor and Mayoress (Mr and Mrs F. J. Nathan) officially to open the Terrace End school bazaar in August. It was also resolved to send a letter of thanks to Messrs. F. J. Nathan and A. J. Palmer for their generous donation of mats for the school.
