HOCKEY AFFAIRS.

MANAWATU ASSOCIATION. The usual weekly meeting of the management committee of the Manawatu Hockey Association was held last evening, Mr A. B. Kerslake presiding. A letter was received from the secretary of the Hawkc's Bay Hockey Association, advising that the Association's letter of May 8, was considered at* the annual meeting of the Hawke's Bay Association, which did not favour any alteration in the present system of challenge shield matches. It was considered that tournaments, as proposed, would be too much for most Associations to stand. It was further decided to instruct their delegates to vote against any proposed change at the meeting to be held in Christchurch on May 22. The Wellington Hockey Association also wrote advising that the annual tournament was not favoured by that Association. Both letters were received. It was decided that the competition* consist of two rounds in both sections. with the power to extend them if the season was not too far advanced. In view of the fact that the Association holds the New Zealand Challenge Shield and that early challenges are likely, Mr F. Cousins moved that the selectors pick players for training, from whose ranks would be selected the representative team. —Carried.
