NO OPTION IN FUTURE. [Per Press Association.] AUCKLAND, Last Night. K youth of 20, whose named was suppressed, was charged at the Police Court with having carried on the business of a bookmaker at Ellerslie racecourse on April 2, and further that on the same date, he entered a bet on the result of the St. Leger Stakes, agreeing to pay an amount depending on the totalisator working. The police stated that the acdused admitted he had been pencilling bets for a relative. Accused was fined £lO on the charge of entering a bet on totalisator odds., the magistrate remarking that the fine was light on account of accused's youth. The charge of bookmaking was withdrawn.

The magistrate, Mr. Poynton. said that in future, unles3 it was in yery exceptional circumstances, imprisonment without the option of a fine would be imposed wherever the offencie allowed this.
