Eulogistic references to the work of Mr N. I. Nielsen, secretary of the Wellington District U.S.A., were made at the annual conference of delegates on Saturday.

The death occurred on Saturday of Mr H. John Mitchell.Houten, at the age at' 50 years. who was born in Dunedin,' came to Palmcrston North 36 years ago. After four years

n the Permanent Artillery in Melbourne and two years at Apiti, deceased resided in Palmcrston North. He was a Past Grand Master of the 1.0.0. F., Manchester Unity, and was greatly esteemed by the members. He leaves a, widow and six' children.

An Invercargill wire announces the of Mr John McQueen, managing director of the Southland Frozen Meat Co. The deceased arrived at Dunedin in 1860, and after storekeeping at Gabriel's Gully, took up land at Knapdale. He was prominently idenlified with local affairs, and had been chairman of the County Council and president of the Farmers' Union. His eldest son was killed in action in France.
