HALCOMBE NOTES.

(Prom Our Own Correspondent.) On Friday night a meeting of the members of the Halcombe Horticultural Society was held, Air. W. Paulding presiding over a fair attendance of 'members. The secretary read the balance-sheet of the show, which left' a good margin on the right side, but owing to having one or two accounts to pay, he qould not give the correct result. Air. Haynes, secretary of the Society stated he invited the Lutheran Church to send along delegates, but owing to church reasons, they could not take the matter up, but wished the society all success. Air. Haynes said that it was rumoured they were not invited and anyone hearing same would do the society as well as himself, a good turn by letting them know. The chairman proposed that the funds be lodged in the Post Office and two trustees be appointed for same.— Carried. Air. Alitchcll proposed, and Air. W. Bryant seconded, that Alessrs; Haynes and Francis be the socict trustees. —Carried. The secretary stated as there was no points prize Worked out yet, he would like this meeeting to decide what points they would give. After discussion, Mr. Francis moved, and Air.’ R. C. OiT seconded, that as there were only Ist and 2nd awarded, the point's be 3 for Ist, and 1 for 2nd. —Carried. After discussion as to whether the champion bloom should be awarded points, Air. Mitchell proposed and Air. PelTcrs seconded, that the cihampion bloom be awarded two points. —Carried.

It was decided to hold a bulb show on a date to be fixed. The secretary stated that having made such a good start, they should buy their own fittings, stating that the expense of carting, etc., every time they held a show would be too great. Mr. Faulding then stated that he would donate a large pine tree to the society which he stated, when sawn up, would yield about 1200 ft. of good timber, which would enable the society t’o manufacture their own fittings, tables, etc., and the donation was received with groat applause for the donor. Mr. Bryant moved that the society be authorised to pay all accounts seconded by Mr. Francis, and carried. Mr. Haynes spoke a few words I'd having a trophy or oup for the champion bloom, tp be won three times, not necessarily in succession, [t was resolved, on the motion of the members present, to procure one for the next' show. Mr. Haynes then moved.a vote of thanks to those who worked so hard in connection with the show to make it a success.—‘•Carried. Mr. Bryant proposed, and Mr. Peffers seconded, that the secretary (Mr. Haynes) be accorded a special vote of thanks, as his services were more than appreciated.—Carried with great applause. The meeting closed with the usual thanks by all present to the chairman.
