BODY IN WANGANUI RIVER.
[Per Press Association.] WANGANUI, Last Night. The body of Thomas Agate Warwick, aged 62 years, residing in Halswell Street, was found floating in tho riyer. It is not known how he got into the water, where he had evidently been only a short time when the body was discovered. LEEDS STREET CAR SMASH. [By Electric Cable—Copyright.] [Aust and N.Z. Cable Association.] (Received Sunday, 7 p.m.) LONDON. May 12. Six were killed and thirty injured in a tramcar smash at Churchwell, near Leeds. The car, becoming uncontrollable while descending a hill, crashed into a wall. There were agonising scenes during the rescue. One person was killed outright and the others died en route to the hospital. EEMIGRANTS IN HOTEL FIRE. (Received Sunday, 11.5 p.m.) LONDON, May 12. Guests at tho Criterion Hotel, Londonderry, were awakened by a fire, but found escape by means of the staircases impossible, and they used the bed sheets to lower themselves from the windows. They were mostly emigrants going to America and lost everything they had taken to the hotel, which was completely destroyed. The emigrants, unable to recover anything, sailed later in tho day. RAILWAY MISHAP AT TRENTHAMI A railway accident, not attended by serious conseciuences, occurred about 8.30 o’clock on Saturday morning at Trentham, report's the “ Post.” When, the 7.50 Woodville train from Wellington was pulling out of the Trenstation, ift was struck by /ai motor-lorry belonging to Mr. Keys, a butcher, at Trentham, and driven by a young man named J. W. Goodwin. No one received injuries, but the engine! and front carriage were damaged to some extent. The accident delayed the train for about 30 minutes.
