ROOT COMPETITION.
FIELD JUDGING. The annual event of judging the roots entered in the Farmers’ Union Hoot competition, will take place next week, as follows. Tuesday, feandou ami Feilding; Wednesday Waituna; Thurs. day, Apiti. These competitions arc of great value to farmers and since they have been started there has been a dis. tinct increase in root production, in some cases as much as 20 tons to the acre, through the lessons learned by the competitors, and the knowledge given by Mr J. W. Deem, Fields Instructor of the Department of Agriculture. Mr Deem explains how and how not to cultivate the ground and other matters of inter, est. Mr Deem will be the judge this year and it will pay handsomely any farmers, and they are all welcome to take a few hours off and accompany the judge on his rouridf.
