Patterson beat Kingscote 6 —4, 3 6, 5 —7, o—4, 6—3, after one of the most exciting struggles seen at Wimbledon. Other results: Cochet beat Mathey, Brugnon beat Ritchie, Lycett beat Morpurg, Turnbull beat P. Lowe, Kingscote beat Gobert. In the ladies' second round, Miss Ryan beat Mrs McNair and Miss Mallory won her round. In the first round of the doubles, Anderson and Lycett beat Kingley and Winder 6 —2, 2—G, 6 —l, 9 —7; Patterson and O'Hara Wood beat Lamb and Jarvis 6 —2, 6 —o, 6 —o. The Lenglen-McKane match created the greatest excitement and was witnessed by fourteen thousand spectators, which is a record in England. The Prince of Wales and the Duke of York were present. Mdlle.
