STARVING JEWS.
AN URGENT APPEAL. (Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, Last Night. The President of the Christchurch Jewish congregation has received the following cablegram from London: —• “The terrible crisis among the East European Jewry makes a fresh appeal necessary by the united relief organisations of Great Britain. A million co-religionists are in the grip of starvation and pestilence. There are over one hundred thousand homeless orphans. Nansen, the High Commissioner of the League of Nations, telegraphs; ’The situation is desperate among the Jewish population. Immediate large foreign relief is necessary.’ Help us to avert an appalling catastrophe. Hope for immediate and energetic co-operation of all Jews ir the British Empire.—(Signed) Chiet Rabbi, Lionel De Rothschild, Lord Swaythllng, Claude Monteflore, LorC Rothschild.”
