THE ART OF WRITING.
The only method by which one may learn to write, is—to write. Though laconic, the advice is a truism, for which there is no known substitute. This paper has been highly gratified and, we confess if, not a little surprised to find that our appeal to quite a number of residents, whose vocations lay in widely divergent directions, for articles in connecton with our special jubilee edition, has brought to light not a few capable writers, some of whom may not even have suspected their own capacity. Our purpose just now in drawing attention to this matter is twofold. First, we earnestly desire to encourage our young men and women, and even those of maturer years, to attain a reasonable fac.ilityjn expressing their thoughts on paper, by assiduously practising the wondrous art of writing. We can assure them that there is> no other known method. Secondly, we hope to know that by contributing briefly the results of their daily observations and reflections on current events and topics to the editor of this paper for selection and publication, they will , learn to increase their own pleasure and profit in life, as well as that of their friends and our readers. There are thousands among us who might thus add to the store of the world's knowledge, and in so doing- may broaden their own souls and hearts.
