A DARING BURGLARY.

AUCKLAND BREWERY ENTERED. SUM OF £SOO TAKEN. (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, Last Night. A daring burglary was perpetrated at the o„fhees of the Lion Brewery, Khyber Pass Road, late on Thursday night, or early this morning, a large sum of money being taken. The offices are separated from the main building by a roairlway. The door from the offices o/ens into a yard. Entrance was effected through the back door, which is sheltered by a porch. Inside the porch is a double door which, at night is locked on the inside, and protected by a strong wooden bar. A square hole was cut in a panel of the door with an augur to allow a man to reach through and unlock the door, and to remove the wooden liar. The burglary was well planned, as,' owing to the day bein- a bank holiday, the cash to pay the wages of the brewery staff was draw* from the bank on Thursday, and lodged In the safe in the strongroom of'the offices. Both the strongroom and safe doors were opened by means of key;:. Most of the cash, which was locked in cash-boxes, was taken, one small box beingoverlooked. The locks of the cash-boxes wenforce.l after they hod been taken from the strong-room. Exact information regarding the amount taken is not available, but it is understood it exceeds £SOO. The burglar, or burglars, must, have worked both silently and expeditiously, as four men were working in the brewery only a short distance from the offices.
