A SOUTHERN INCIDENT.
EXPULSION OF A CHILD (Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, East Night. The incident of the public expulsion of a girl nine years of age from the Elmwood School, for thieving and lying, came before the Canterbury Education Board to-day. The Appointments Committee reported that the headmaster had acted within the powers conferred upon him by the Education Act, but the committee suggested that in tho interests of the child's future, in such cases public expulsion was to be depreciated. The report was adopted. A. letter from the Trades and Labour Council asking that the headmaster be dismissed was merely received.
