CAPITAL SHIPS.
FRENCH ACCEPT RATIO. BUT NOT FOR DEFENSIVE CRAFT. [By Electric Cable— Copyright.] [Aust. and N.Z. Cable Association.] WASHINGTON, December 20. The French delegates have accepted the Hughes naval ratio, which allots to France 175,000 tons of capital ships; but they decline to accept the same proportion in regard to defensive ships, such as cruisers, torpedo-craft and submarines. (As far as the figures are now availaide, the tonnage allotted for the various navies are as follow; —Britain, 582,050 tons: United States, 525,850 tons; Japan, 315,000 tons; France, 175,000 tons. The British and American figures are regarded as equal in value, because the existing British ships are less modern than the American.]
