ST. HELEN'S FUNDS.
A mSPUS ifeoM THE MINISTER
In connection with the resolutions passed regarding the St. Helen's Home campaign funds, Mr S. G. Northey, of Palmerston North, has received the following reply to his communication from the Hon. C. J. Parr, Minister of Public Health: —"In reference to your letter of 15th inst. I have to inform you that the question of whether the proposed maternity hospital at Palmerston North should be on the lines of a St. Helen's hospital administered by the Government, or an institution administered by tho Hospital Board, is at present under consideration, but naturally, money raised for a definite object must either be used for that object or returned to the contributors should they so desire." At a recent meeting members of Friendly Societies objected that tho St. Helen's Home Committee had passed a resolution contrary to the one on which the money was raised, and which, they say, stipulated that the funds must be handed over to the Government at the close of the campaign. The opinion was also expressed at the meeting that,-had the original resolution been rescinded before passing another, mat ters would have been in order.
