The “Observer” pays a tribute to McConachy’s play, and says criticism of the New Zealand champion-and his chance of extending the best English professionals in the coming championship had best be delayed until lie has had more public practice. McConachy is undoutbedly going to do big things before he departs. He is the finest ponent of the losing hazard game. Nevertheless, there is a weakness about this specialist which wea'kened Gray. When he attempted to win the championship he had weakened power in other directions. At the close of the day McConachy (in play) had scored 9001. including 329 (of which 321 were off the red), 244 and 303. Newman has scored 7977, including 757 and 198.
