DANNEVIRKE Mr and Mrs Hole, of Wanganui; are at present visiting their son, Mr C. Hole, of Ngapururu. At the weekly stock sale hold here yesterday to a poor attendance of buyers, stock realised very low prices, very few lines changing hands. Pigs, which up to date have been selling well, were from 8/- to 10/each. A motor bus belonging to Mr K. Mills was destroyed by lire near the 9-mile peg on the Weber Road last Thursday. It appears that the driver stopped the bus in order to put a tin of benzine in the tank, and whilst doing so by some means it became ignited, it is supposed by the fumes coming in contact with a kerosene lamp. In a very short space of time the whole car was a mass of flames. The lirst annual general meeting of the Uannevirke Electric Power Board is to take place on November 22nd, when the appointment of a clerk and treasurer will be made. Mr G. Coghill, late manager of the Union Bank (local branch), leaves for Nelson to-day to take up his duties there as manager of the Nelson branch of the bank. In the Magistrate’s Court on Thursday a farmer named Augustine Cosgrove, of Raumati, was fined £lO for thrashing his wife. Half the fine was paid over to the complainant. Cosgrove was bound over in the sum of £SO upon his own recognisance to keep the peace. Mr Richards will give an open-air address on the labour question In Dannevirke on Saturday evening.
