BALANCE OF TRADE.
The following table, compiled by the "Trade Review," gives the exports and imports of New Zealand for the past three years, showing what the balance of trade has been for each quarter: —
j ■ j —— j 3 The excess of imports in the first quarter has no particular significance, as the two preceding quarters had substantial excess of exports. During 1919 there was a very satisfactory excess of exports, but in the second quarter of last year the balance swung the wrong way. From April of this year the balance has swung back again, am* July shows a highly satisfactory excess of exports, but August exports do not quite cover the imports. September exports will be light, but equal to, or a little more than, August’s total, while imports are not likely to be less than in August.
