Cr Vincent reported on the conference which had taken place with the Pohangina County Council and the settlers interested with regard to the proposal to form the Broadlands road in the Malton Block just above Ashburst. Cr Vincent stated a question of establishing a special rating area was involved. The people who had to find the money seemed to be in favour of the road. Mr Akers had offered to put in 500 acres of his large section into the rating area. Really what was going to happen now was that the engineers of the Pohangina and Oroua Counties would go oyer the road and give an estimate of the cost, while the Pohangina County Council would supply full particulars of the rating of the Malton Block. Pohangina was quite agreeable to contributing to the upkeep of _ the road. The Oroua County’s position would not be very heavy. There war nd doubt that those interested would lie somewhat surprised when the% found out what it would cost. —In reply to a question, the chairman saic the cost of upkeep would be contributed on a pro rata basis between the two bodies.
