The engineer reported that in the Mangaone riding gravel repairs had been effected to Run road. When the Leyland truck came to hand the whole of the work of gravelling this road would be carried out. In the Rangitawa riding the recent floods caused a washout at the approach to the bridge over the Rangitawa stream at Kakariki, but the road was opened for traffic the following day. Raumanga riding.—A washout occurred to the approach of the bridge across the Waituna stream on Arapata road. This road as far as the gorge should be opened Tor traffic by the end of this week. Some heavy slips occurred in the Gorge, and in one place part of the road was carried away. The work of improving the road approaching Onepuhi bridge would, toe put in liana as soon as the Arapata road had been opened. Makino riding.—Kimbolton road from Forlong's road to Cheltenham has been repaired. A good deal of gravel was washed off the Makino roads by the recent floods and the bed of the Makino stream above Forlong's road had been considerably deepened, particularly at Mackay's Line, where some work will be necessary to secure the foundations of the bridge. Taonui riding.—The work of replacing the land spans of the bridge on Forlong's road with falling has been put in hand. Some repairs have been effected to the roads about Colyton, otherwise little work has been done in this riding. The formation of Raukawa road has been completed as far as the swamp. Otangaki riding.—Gravel repairs have been effected to the Go.rge and Palmerston roads and Ashhurst streets. The Palmerston road has been trimmed with the grader. A culvert on the Pohangina road beyond Spur road is too low, causing flood waters to overflow the road. This could be remedied to a great extent by raising the level of the culvert and road at this point.
