Mrs C S. Rush, who underwent a serious operation in Nurse Linton’s hospital last week, is making an excellent recovery. The Wanganui Presbyterian Church has extended a unanimous call to Rev. Evan R. Harris, of the Chalmers Church, Timaru. Lord Forster, formerly M.P. for Sevenoaks (Kent), has been appointed Governor-General of Australia. Lord Forster is a sound Constitutionalist, and is regarded as a capable administrator. He played cricket Australians during their visits to England. The golden wedding of Mr and Mrs John Lowden, for forty years resident at Mataura, was recently celebrated. Mr Lowden has been Mayor for eight terms, has held other responsible public offices, and with Mrs Lowden was associated with all local patriotic works. Many congratulations were received by Mr and Mrs Lowden and their family on the happy occasion. After an illness extending over a couple of years, the death occurred yesterday evening of Mrs Macdonald, wife of Mr Adam A. Macdonald, ol Fitzherbert Street. The late Mrs McDonald was a daughter of Mr Alex. Dundas, who was for many years district surveyor here. Durimg the wai Mrs McDonald had been one of the most energetic workers for patriotic purposes, and it was while engaged in work for the benefit of the soldiers that she contracted a chill, Irorn die result of which she never recovered. Deceased is survived by her husband and two daughters.
