SCHOOL COMMITTEES.
WEST END. 'Hie West End School Committee met last evening; present —Messrs C. H. Whitehead (chairman). C. J. Page, P H Parr, P. Carpenter, W. E. Pi'essncll, and A. O. Buchler (head master). The head master reported that the roll number was 833, and the average attendance 28 2. The school would be closed on July sth to allow the statt to attend a conference of Inspectors and teachers. The term examinations were to be held in the present month. In his report, Mr Buchler mentioned also that the roof of the school was still in a leaky condition, and needed immediate attention. It was decided to make further urgent representations to the Board upon the subject. Jt was resolved to ask the Borough Council to have the water-table opposite the school put in decent condition, and the footpath opposite the school properly termed. The Education Board forwarded suggestions for the celebration of Arbor Day, including lessons in practice and theory, on the value of tree planting and natural study In connection with the school's display at the Show, the ladies of the school district arc to canvass the vicinity for assistance in carrying out the work of erecting and decorating the stall#
