COMMITTEE OF DEFENCE

TO ASSIST THE MINISTER. A Committee of Defence has been set up to consider and report confidentially to the Minister for Defence on problems of Defence and important policy questions connected therewith. The committee is constituted as follows:—President, Major-General Sir E. W. C. Chaytor, K.C.M.G., K.C.Y.0.. C.8.. A.D.C.; members, Major-General Sir A. H. Russell, K.C.8., K.C.M.G., A.D.C, Major-General Sir A. W. Robin, K.C.M.G., C.8., BrigadierGeneral G. S. Richardson, C.8.. C.M.G., C.8.E., Commander T. A. Williams, C.8.E., R.N., Colonel J. J. Esson, C.M.G.; secretary, LieutenantColonel R. B. Smythe, D.S.O. The committee has power to add to its number and to call experts to give evidence. The functions of the committee arc: —To consider questions and elaborate plans of defence from the point of view of—The Military Forces, the Naval Forces, the Air Forces, Imperial Defence; to advise the Minister regarding the allocation of funds to be devoted to defence; to obtain and collate information from the various Departments of State; to prepare any documents required by the Minister; to furnish such advice as might be given; to keep adequate records for the permanent information of the Minister.
